“I wanted to bring together a talented group of women, in various stages of their careers, to help bring to life my vision and passion for presenting young women with knowledge that might lead them through the difficult maze of career dead-ends, with the possibility of better understanding the ways to becoming THE leader of an organization.”

Why ABC To CEO?
ABC To CEO was created after I retired from a successful career in a Fortune 500 Company. During the last 10 years of my career, I reported to the Chairman and CEO and was part of the C-Suite of Executives. It was a great career, but as I reflected on it after it was over, I realized that as much as I accomplished, I felt I didn’t do all that I maybe could have done. Specifically, I regretted that at an early age I never thought about guiding my career in a manner necessary for what it would have taken to be considered for that top job: the CEO. And in talking to successful women today, many still do not have the role of CEO on their radar screen. My hope is that ABC to CEO will be a part of changing what is on the radar screen for the next generation of women.
In Retrospect…
By the time I was mid-career I had made too many “mistakes” to be on a path of becoming a CEO. First, even before beginning my career, although not unheard of, majoring in psychology is not high on the list of degree majors for CEOs (albeit later obtaining a MBA was a major plus for me). Next, I married at an early age without considering if my spouse would be interested in relocations. And then there were the career mistakes. My career was limited to staff positions, never operations, sales or any role with P&L responsibility. And because I continued to get promoted at an accelerated rate, I did not pursue roles beyond staff positions…why would I?...I was getting promoted, right? Isn’t getting promoted a sign of success? Little did I realize that I was missing an entire world of important experiences. As I look back on it now, by mid-career I had made so many wrong turns I could never have found the road to becoming a CEO even if the idea had occurred to me. Although the paths I took provided many rewards both personally and financially, they led to a dead-end as far as ever becoming a CEO was concerned.
BETH CHESTERTON
Impact Consultant and Content Design Project Manager
I was thrilled when Sharon asked me to help her launch ABC to CEO. I spent my early career working for the largest bank in the world advancing their high potential population. I traveled the world to work with future senior leaders. Our intensive programs prepared them to reach the very top as quickly as possible and to be prepared for success once they arrived there. Our goal wasn’t to make them a little bit better, but to make them spectacular.
Subsequently, I met and began working with Dr. Kathy Cramer, a legend and pioneer in the field of positive psychology. Kathy introduced me to Sharon while we were facilitating a meeting for Peabody Energy’s senior leadership team — Sharon was the sole female senior executive. I had the opportunity to observe her in action. Sharon was everything you would hope for in a leader: universally respected, highly effective and wildly captivating.
It's an honor to help Sharon mine and share her knowledge and experience — and to invite other CEOs to share theirs — for the benefit of girls and young women everywhere. As a mother of two daughters and a woman committed to helping young women find their way and reach their potential — this work is where my purpose meets my passion.
